adoption update

On April 8th we had our joint interview at the adoption agency.  It went well, but we did leave that meeting a little discouraged.  We are aware of the things that can go wrong, but to hear our social worker say things like "You know the girls lie about drugs they've taken and we don't know until after the babies are born" and "If we can't find the father or the mother lies about the father the he can come take the baby back anytime before the adoption is finalized (around 6 months).  I realize they need to prepare us for the worst case scenarios, but for a couple gripped by fear already it wasn't exactly the kinds of things we wanted to hear.

This past Saturday we had an all day adoption workshop at the agency.  That was a bit more encouraging because we were able to hear several success stories from couples that had adopted through our agency.  We also had a great presentation from a pediatrician of a list of possible health concerns we may encounter with a newborn that are normal and those that require attention.  It was a long day, but overall a good experience.

My individual interview was rescheduled so Tom and I both have our separate interviews this week.  Our home visit is still scheduled for the 29th.  We are a little less anxious about it after talking to our social worker and hearing from other parents.  Although one parent said that they looked inside her refrigerator...wouldn't have guessed that!!!

Thank you for everyone's continued prayers through the process!!!
